HOW TO TAKE MEASUREMENTS

The easiest tool to use is a flexible tailor's measuring tape which, by shaping itself around your dog, allows you to get the most accurate measurements possible. If you don't have a tailor's tape, you can measure your dog using a string and then check the length against a rigid ruler.

STANDARD COLLAR

You only need a single measurement to guarantee a perfect and secure fit.

 - WHAT TO DO: Measure the circumference right around the middle of your dog's neck (indicated by the YELLOW LINE in the photo).

 - THE ATELIER'S TIP: For maximum safety, it is always better to choose a larger collar size adjusted to its tightest setting, rather than a small size adjusted to its maximum extension.

MARTINGALE COLLAR

This model slips over the head, so it requires two measurements to achieve a perfect fit.

 - MEASUREMENT 1 (NECK): Measure the circumference around the middle of the neck (indicated by the YELLOW LINE in the photo).

 - MEASUREMENT 2 (HEAD): Measure the widest part of the head, including the ears as the measuring tape passes over them (indicated by the BLUE LINE in the photo).

 - GOLDEN RULE: Take the maximum measurement of the head (Blue Line) and ADD 1 CM to the total. This extra centimeter will allow the collar to be slipped on comfortably without causing discomfort, while ensuring it cannot slip off if the dog twists its head.

HARNESS

BASE OF NECK CIRCUMFERENCE

 - WHAT TO DO: Measure the circumference at the base of the neck, where the neck meets the shoulders (indicated by the GREEN LINE).

 - GOLDEN RULE: The tape should be snug but not tight. Leave enough room for two fingers between the tape and the dog's fur to ensure the right level of comfort.

CHEST CIRCUMFERENCE

 - WHAT TO DO: Wrap the measuring tape around the chest at its widest point, right behind the front legs (indicated by the PINK LINE).

 - GOLDEN RULE: Again, keep the tape snug and insert a two-finger space between the fur and the tape for an impeccable fit.

BACK STRAP (BACK LENGTH)

 - WHAT TO DO: Measure the length of the top section that rests along the back (indicated by the YELLOW LINE).

STERNAL STRAP (UNDERBELLY PART)

 - WHAT TO DO: Measure the length of the lower strap that passes under the sternum between the front legs (indicated by the BLUE LINE).
